Siegfried takes James to see Mr White's lame horse and lets him both evaluate and treat it, before they venture on to Barrow Hills to see Bert Sharpe's cow, Violet, which makes its mark on James. James has to earn his money even before securing employment. While James waits for Siegfried Farnon, his potential employer, he meets Mr Biggins for the first time.
